It's Comment Time...

If you've never commented on here before, now's the time.
For this post... I'm just posting questions.
I've been doing a lot of self examination today, and wanted your input.
More honesty...for the last 6 months my husband and I both have been in a holding pattern. We did REALLY well in the first 6 months. I lost close to 60 lbs and he lost 40ish. THAT is pretty rockstar!!! BUT... I've been gaining and losing the same 5-10 lbs SINCE THEN!!!
People have told me that it's just muscle gain (Ummm CRAP) or that my body is changing even though the scale isn't (ok, I'll take a little of that) OR... the most ridiculous one... I've hit a plateau!!!! Ummm NO... full on crap! I'm 300lbs, you don't hit plateaus when you are 300 lbs. I have far too much weight to lose off of my 5'6" body to say I've hit a plateau. AND even more ridiculous... there is NO way that both Chris and I hit the same plateau at the same time.
NOPE...we eat crap and we use excuses to not go to the gym.
That's are plateau.
So... trying to get back in it adn be in it and not fall out of it.

Here are my questions for you...
What do you do when it's going well? How do you keep yourself going?
What do you do when life gets crazy? How do you keep yourself going?
Do you use rewards? Do you not need them?
What do you do when you go out to eat?
How often do you go out to eat?
and my most serious question....
What do you do when you just don't WANT to? Simple as that. I sometimes just don't want to.

ok, last question...
Do you ever have moments that you're sitting on the couch instead of going to the gym or eating something that you KNOW you shouldn't have (ahem, Texas Roadhouse buns-did you know that they have 227 cals and that's WITHOUT the butter?) and you just don't care.. you know you should but you don't?

OK, bring on the comments. :)

  1. Hi Cheryl! I'm so proud of you and Chris for losing so much weight, I wish I could lose! I have been trying to lose some weight as well, I would like to lose about 20 pounds and i'd be so happy! Lately Nick and I have been going to his house where he has lots of workout equipment and we've been working out. Now, I absolutely HATE to work out, but I find that if I do it as soon as I'm done with work, and get it over with I feel better instead of procrastinating and putting it off. Now for your questions, I'll try my best to answer them. I put at least 20 pounds on after high school mainly from not being as active as before and it was hard to get it off, but I found that now I eat breakfast every single day, no matter what day, and I lost some weight just from that I think. I don't eat anything fancy, just a serving of cheerios or whatever cereal I have but I make sure to not overdo it. i love cereal so i could eat tons of it but I resist. Even if you can only grab a granola bar or anything, it's better than nothing! it jump starts your metabolism! I do fall off the wagon on the weekends. I eat so well during the week, having 3 meals and one or 2 snacks here in between, but when the weekend comes I like to snack on everything and eat badly like pizza or whatever I can find. I'm a big drinker so that's not my problem. I don't use rewards or at least I try not to. After I work out I try and resist from eating a bunch even though i feel like i deserve it because i did all that work, however if i did eat it would blow off everything i just did. When Nick and I go out to eat, which isn't very often maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks, and we're cheap so we sometimes split a meal, just cut it in half when you get it and get 2 plates or if i'm eating a meal by myself, it's really hard to do because i could eat the whole thing, but i sometimes cut it in half and set it aside right away and just eat half. Yes, I do sit on the couch and then feel guilty that I'm not doing anything (like right now) and i hate to watch the biggest loser and just sit there while they're working so hard! Also, you were saying that you've kind of hit a point where you can't lose more than 5 pounds, maybe you'll have to refigure how many calories you're eating in a day, since you've lost a lot, you're smaller and so your body won't need as much as before. The bottom line, if you cut calories, you will probably lose because it takes a lot to keepup a body in calories. However, sometimes you just have to give yourself a break, you can only take one day at a time, and pray about it, Ask God to take away your cravings and the things that you constantly want. I also tried Weight watchers and that is very helpful too, i just couldn't afford it. I love to work out with someone, it's better than doing it by yourself. Well I'm not much help but I'm so happy that you're doing this for yourself. I'll be praying for you guys!!! Love you!

  2. Anna...thanks for your comments. I'm going to read it all again. We love you to! and thanks for your prayers. That means a lot to us! :)

  3. Cheryl, you and I are SO much alike. I can relate to everything in your post. I am probably not going to be on the computer much this week, but when I get back from the trip, I was planning on writing a post about something I realized last week, about balance. It's one of those frustrating lessons that I think I've learned... then I haven't, and I learn it again... except it doesn't stick, and I have to learn it again... and on and on. I think I finally felt that "click" this time. That post will be pretty much answering the exact same questions you just asked! I hate to comment-and-dash, but I wanted to tell you to not give up! One thing I've realized (I tell you, I'm very slow) is that I did not get as large as I was by having one bad day, one bad week or even one bad month. It is endless bad choices, endless nights on the couch mindlessly eating while watching TV and not moving, that got me to that point. So even if I've slipped and tell myself stupid things like "well, this week is shot!", I have each new Monday to start fresh, confident that no matter how bad the number on the scale feels, it's nowhere near as bad as the number I started with! Keep your chin up, girl, you're doing FABULOUSLY!!
